Prior to authorship, John founded Weiss and Associates, a retained executive search firm catering exclusively to the for-profit education industry composed of companies publishing instructional materials and providing services for the K-16 marketplace. His successful nationwide search and consulting assignments spanning twenty-two years have resulted in placements of board members, presidents, executive vice presidents, vice presidents, chief technology officers, directors, managers, field sales representatives, consultants and support staff. Among his many clients are: Apple, The English Speaking Union; The College Board; Educational Testing Service (ETS); Texas Instruments; Highlights for Children; Houghton/Harcourt; MIND Research Institute; Measured Progress; eInstruction; and, many others both large and entrepreneurial. 

 

Prior to founding Weiss & Associates Executive Recruiting in 1997, Weiss held positions in the educational publishing and technology industry with companies such as Houghton/Harcourt, D.C. Heath (a subsidiary of Raytheon), The Learning Company, Apple Computer and J.B. Lippincott where he served as editor-in-chief for K-12 publications.  His corporate executive management responsibilities encompassed domestic and international sales, marketing, editorial and product development. Before his work in the corporate world, Weiss taught at the Middle School and High School levels in Chicago.

 

He has served with distinction as a faculty member of the Pennsylvania Cable and Telecommunications Association, and was a founding member of the AAP International Copyright Committee. His involvement in K-16 education includes memberships with AEP, SIIA, EdNet and LinkedIn. He continually updates his knowledge base by attending numerous education related conferences and trade shows across the USA and other countries.

 

Entrepreneurial experience includes the founding of a K-12 fundraising business, Educational Fundraising Resources, and ownership of a supplementary K-8 Mathematics publishing company, Extra Editions.

 

His undergraduate work at De Paul University and Loyola University, both in Chicago, included majors in Education, Sociology and English. Graduate level work concentrated on English, law and business.
